ABOVE THE FOE is a DCS World campaign server. Born from the CoVid lockdowns as an immersive environment for our small group of squadron mates to fly - it has now evolved into a full pilot career driven campaign system, providing pilots with a highly immersive, realistic and feature-rich WW2 open multiplayer environment.
Key features include:
- Pilot career system for both Allied and Luftwaffe, with pilots achieving promotions in rank, medals and awards.
- Active Pilot Rosters and Mission Log systems.
- Allied Field Order mission and pilot selection systems.
- Luftwaffe tasking and pilot selection systems.
- Extensive mission database including fighter sweeps, escorts, fighter-bomber and anti-ship.
- Fully integrated Allied reconnaissance system including Tactical, Target and BDA recce missions linked to the Field Orders.
- Feature rich persistent Air-Sea Rescue system which collects pilots if they're down in the channel, flyable search and rescue aircraft to pinpoint and protect pilot positions.
- Voice-acted Allied Type-16 radar controller.
- Voice-acted Allied VHF direction finding system.
- Voice-acted Luftwafe JaFu radar controller.
- Voice-acted Allied and Luftwaffe ASR controllers.
The server is constantly being developed with refinements and added features; for example in the works is an 'OBOE' system for Mosquito missions, Ground Control for each Wing/Group, Luftwaffe Reconnaissance, interactive air-ground forces both AI and human controlled during and the post D-Day campaigns, and more..
Please join the Discord server for up-to-date developments.
ABOVE THE FOE recreates a long campaign spanning from early April 1944 to the end of September 1944.
Each day in the campaign will be approximately 1 week in real-time.
The long campaign will be split into 3 main parts;
- A Prelude To Overloard - 1st April to D-Day.
- The Invasion - June 6th to July.
- The Breakout - July to October.
Your pilot is everything, the ultimate aim being to keep them alive and get through the campaigns unscathed.
Active Pilot Rosters are kept for each Wing/Group/Jagdgeschwader. Groups/Wings/JGs also accrue a Mission Log, outlining details and results and stats on each mission flown. Pilots who took part in the missions are also able to file combat reports - including their own story, shared claims, and more.
On registration, you will have to choose a Wing, Group or Jagdgeschwader to fly with, as well as whether you want to be designated a 'lead' role. This choice will stick for each sub-campaign. I you wish to change groups, you have ONE opportunity to do so via your Pilot Card (website login). You can choose to 'Request a transfer' to another group or wing in your existing air froce, or 'defect' to the other side! If you request a transfer, you pilot career will persist, however if you defect your pilot career will not be transferred and you will lose their progress.
A 'lead' pilot role will enable you access to the Allied Field Order or Luftwaffe Tasking system (please see the relevant section of the website for more details). As a lead pilot it will be up to you to organise, brief, assign and lead your fellow pilots in flight.
Teamwork is encouraged. Flying in numbers means higher odds of you ALL surviving. You can either fly within your own existing group or pre-arrange with other groups in your coalition (this is where Discord helps).
Reconnaissance (currently Allied only) is a fundamental component of the Operations system as it was during the war. If you choose to fly as a reconnaissance pilot it is your job to supply the Fighter Groups with the intelligence they need to plan and execute their missions with precision. You can find out more in the Allied 'Reconnaissance' section.
As said, please read through the other sections of the website to familiarise yourself with the server's mechanics and features. With immersion the primary focus - we run perhaps a little more militarily than others as a result of implementing in-depth Operations systems into the mix. This is where the 'serious fun' concept really comes alive.
Anyone is free to join. But note being a group-based server, to fly will always require a wingman.
If you would like to take part in the campaigns, please register by clicking the 'Register Here' button and join our Discord server using the link above.
